Professional Development Schools

The Professional Development Schools Partnership brings together the College of Education and Health Science's students and faculty with four Peoria Public School District #150 schools to partner in teaching and learning. The project allows Bradley candidates the opportunity to gain clinical experience in the world of practice.

Interaction and on-going activities with urban school sites enhance the quality of learning for both teachers and students in all partnering institutions.  Continuing collegial support for Student Improvement Plans and professional development by the univeristy facility at the school sites contributes to developing school curricula and cultures.

In the fall of 1995, the William T. Kemper Foundation awarded a grant to the College of Education and Health Sciences for the purpose of partnering with area schools to promote professional development and "best practice" curriculum among school faculty and field experience students.  Ultimately, the goal is to improve the education experience for children and adult learners.   This grant also provides funding for professional development for the CEHS faculty in the William T. Kemper Academy for Teaching Excellence or known on campus as the Teaching Academy.

William T. Kemper Foundation – Commerce Bank Trustees

and Center for Research & Service

Spring Celebration - April 24, 2008

Peggy FlanniganThe William T. Kemper Foundation – Commerce Bank Trustees collaborated with the Center for Research and Service (CRS) for the annual Teaching Academy Spring Celebration. The theme was Vision and Goal Setting. Faculty and staff from the proChris Rybakfessional development schools and the College of Education and Health Sciences were invited.  Each participant explained their resent research or project, giving everyone the opportunity to hear about what was happening in the schools and the college, plus identify opportunities for future collaboration.

Inspirational phrases were posted throughout the room which helped to emphasize the Fish Philosophy (Lundin, Paul, & Christensen, 2000).   Past Teaching Academies presented the information about improving the work environment using the four tenets of this business philosophy. Each participant also received items to represent clear vision, measuring progress, recording progress, and inspiration.

Joan SattlerDean Dr. Joan Sattler presented certificates to the Kemper Site Coordinators, as well as all four professional development schools to thank them for their continued collaboration. Faculty and school administrators from Manual High School, Roosevelt Magnet School, Whittier Primary School, and Valeska Hinton Early Childhood Education Center accepted the certificates on behalf of their schools.

The Kemper and CRS Spring Celebration was a great success. The collaboration between these two organizations emphasized the importance of research and projects which expands the knowledge base of education and the health sciences.

Cross-Cultural Collaboration

Spring 2006

Cross Cultural CollaborationIn the Spring of 2006, the Kemper Fellowship organized a Cross-Cultural Collaboration between international students and teachers from Lumo High School in Finland and Manual High School.  The project allowed future teachers and current students at the university and high school levels to become more aware of the cultural differences, and to build a stronger knowledge base in social studies as well as the need for international awareness.
