Dr. Cecile Arquette’s B. A. is in Dramatic Arts from the University of Mary Washington (1984). Between 1987 and 1989, she served in the United States Peace Corps teaching English in Cameroon West Central Africa. Upon her return, she received her M. A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Teachers’ College, Columbia University (1990). After teaching elementary students in New Mexico for nine years, Cecile earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with a concentration in Reading from New Mexico State University (2000).
Teaching continues to be Dr. Arquette’s primary interest. She teaches both k-8 preservice teachers and graduate level students in the areas of language arts, children’s literature and methods in teaching second language learners. She chairs two departmental committees, and serves in the Bradley University Senate.
Dr. Arquette is also the Professional Development School coordinator of Whittier Primary School, where she provides resources and ideas to Whittier teachers and students, as well as works with Bradley students placed there for their field experiences.
Dr. Arquette’s research interests include effective teaching practices at the university level, cross age learning and best practices in the teaching of the language arts both to monolingual and multi-lingual learners. Dr. Arquette serves on the manuscript review board for the International Reading Association and the Educational Inquiry Online Journal.
