Saxophone recital set for April 5

Peoria, IL (March 14, 2012) The Bradley University Saxophone Quartet and Quintet will present a recital on Thursday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue.

The program will consist of the second movement of the Glazounov Quartet for Saxophones, Jean Rivier's Grave et Presto, Marcel Mule's transcription of the Albeniz Sevilla, Tschaikovsky's Andante Cantabile from the op. 11 string quartet, and Brown and Shrigley's Bullfrog Blues.  

The quintet portion of the program will feature the world premiere of Reynaldo Hahn's A Chorlis, setting by John Redshaw. Other pieces will be from the library of the Illinois Saxophone Quintet which, from 1972-1994, was the world's only professional saxophone quintet. Included are Tomaso Albinoni"s Sonata op. 2, No. 6; Bach's Prelude and Fugue No. 22; Mozart's Quintet, op. 406; and James Scott's Frog Legs Rag.  Members of the quartet are Dustin Ahrends, Amanee Avery, Rebecca Bucklin, and Keith Zimmerman; Dan Young joins the group to make the quintet.
