September 24, 2013

Dr. Dean Cantù, chair of the Department of Teacher Education at Bradley University, has been appointed to the Illinois State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board (SEPLB) by the Illinois State Board of Education. He will serve as one of two board members representing private colleges and universities in Illinois on the board.

The SEPLB is responsible for ensuring that all educators are properly prepared by their preparation programs and that all educator candidates are highly qualified. The board is responsible for setting standards for teaching in state public schools, approving and evaluating educator preparation programs, and maintaining the licensure examination system.

Cantù, of Elmwood, Illinois, is the executive director of the Illinois Council for the Social Studies and president of the Illinois Association for Teacher Education in Private Colleges.

Bradley is a top-ranked private, independent university in Peoria, Illinois, offering 5,700 students the choice of more than 100 academic programs. Bradley links academic excellence, experiential learning and leadership development with an entrepreneurial spirit for a world-class education. Its size provides students with extensive resources not available at most private colleges and the personal attention not commonly found at large universities.
