Recognizing opportunities for growth is one of the personal strengths of one of our longstanding clients, Brian Ford, founder and president of Facet Technologies, Inc. In 2001, Brian decided he should satisfy a growing need for outsourced information technology services in the Peoria metro area, specializing in services for small to mid-sized companies. From humble beginnings, this former Caterpillar IT professional and Bradley MBA now employs twenty computer specialists, and has offices in Peoria and Pekin.
“Think of Facet as your outsourced IT department”, says Brian. “No problem is too large or unique – we’ve seen it all.” Currently, Facet provides computer support for more than 1,000 businesses throughout Central Illinois. Included among the types of services provided are repair/installation of networks, pc’s and routers, connecting remote facilities, software development, website creation, factory automation systems, and Mac repairs. Facet has also earned “partner” status with Microsoft, HP, Cisco, and others.
“Our clients’ time is one of their most valuable resources”, Brian says. “When their computer systems are down, any delay costs them money”. To speed up repair response time, Facet offers “remote service”, where a technician diagnoses and repairs problems online, without having to travel to the customer’s place of business. “Eliminating travel time allows us to serve customers more quickly and inexpensively”.
The newest opportunity for Facet involves their September 2007 purchase of another local computer services business, “Nerds On Call”. While Facet has provided IT services to residential customers since its inception, this acquisition provides it with more flexibility to perform smaller business and residential jobs and to offer a wider array of services.
Partnering with other complimentary local businesses is one of Brian’s core beliefs. In fact, three years ago Brian helped form the “Prairie Technology Alliance”. Through the Alliance, the efforts of several smaller companies are combined to provide a complete solution to a clients’ technology problem, while maintaining the strong customer service component that small businesses are known for.
“The Turner Center has been a tremendous resource for us,” says Brian. “From business advice to student projects, the staff at the Turner Center has really helped me grow this business.” For more information on Facet Technology, Inc or Prairie Technology Alliance, contact Brian Ford at (309) 353-4727 or (309) 688-4727.
