Accounting alumnus Jason Pearce ’96 MBA ’97, Business Manager for Caterpillar Inc., was the guest speaker for the evening, discussing “Accountants as Business Advisors.”
“First, he talked about how accountants interact with business leaders,” Dr. Simon Petravick, Accounting Department Chair and Professor, said. “Also, on how we can provide advice on many important topics such as budgets, business proposals, target setting, or program governance. In order to do this, we need knowledge not only of accounting but also of the goals the business is trying to receive.”
Pierce also discussed global interaction and focused a great deal on how important it is to understand local culture and customs in order to effectively make decisions and manage.
The Department of Accounting appreciates the support it receives from alumni and friends so that it can recognize its outstanding students.
