A collaborative research project between Bradley University and Caterpillar received international recognition for use of analytics.

Caterpillar’s Gemstone supply network optimization project won the 2016 International Institute for Analytics Excellence in Analytics Award. The award recognizes business’ integration of analytics in local-level projects. Gemstone included Bradley computer science and information systems professor Dr. Chris Nikolopoulos and a research team from Brunel University in London.

Gemstone, which began in 2012, is an ongoing project to refine Caterpillar’s complex supply chains.

“Participation in high-value research enables us to participate in a state-of-the-art research project with significant real-world implications,” Nikolopoulos said. “The students get significant experience in the scientific creative process, and this can enhance their careers as computer professionals or prepare them for graduate school.”
