Alzheimer's Disease and Current Research at UICOMP
Dr. Ken Fukuchi, Professor, Department of Cancer Biology & Pharmacology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine (UICOMP), will discuss the pathological and physical changes that Alzheimer’s disease brings to those affected, including some of the probable causes of the disease. Dr. Fukuchi will also talk about how his research is examining possible therapeutic solutions using mouse models, the goals of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease, and the implementation of clinical trials for preventative drugs. His presentation will also address the impact of a rapidly aging population that is a growing public health problem; a definition and causes of Alzheimer’s disease; and approaches toward new therapies. This lecture resulted from feedback from OLLI participants who heard Dr. Fukuchi speak during an OLLI trip to UICOMP.
