The World's First Tracheal Transplant
Dr. Craig Cady, Associate Professor of Biology at Bradley University, will discuss the research he and his team completed to support a revolutionary trachea transplant operation. In April, surgeons in Peoria implanted a tissue-engineered, stem cell-based, artificial windpipe into a 32-month old toddler who had been unable to breathe, talk, swallow, eat, or drink on her own since birth.
Dr. Cady will discuss the research that made the surgery possible and the additional breakthrough research that has taken place in the months after the surgery.
