River Action League

October 9, 2013

River Action League (RAL), an outreach program through the Center for STEM Education, is reaching out to the community in new ways! This citizen science water quality monitoring program recently brought ten local educators to campus for a full day of training on the RAL equipment and organizational protocols. These teachers represented five different high schools and also included a group of non-formal educators from the Peoria Riverfront Museum. Now that they are trained they can check out the RAL field kits from the Center for STEM Education and lead groups of students into the field to test local streams. RAL will also be presenting and exhibiting at the 14th Biennial Governor’s Conference on the Management of the Illinois River System. Fundraising is in full swing to try and recruit additional partners to grow the program and reach even more educators and students!
