Senior sports communications major Jon Teich of Bay City, Michigan was selected as Student Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois. The Lincoln Academy of Illinois was established in 1964 by the Governor of Illinois to recognize distinguished Illinoisans. The Student Laureate Program annually honors an outstanding senior from each of the four-year degree-granting colleges and universities in Illinois and one student representing the state’s community colleges.
Teich said he was “shocked” but also “honored” to be the recipient of such a distinguish award. Teich was recognized at the 39th Annual Convocation and Investiture of Student Laureates on November 2 at the Old State Capitol historic site in Springfield, Illinois. Recipients were presented with a medallion and certificate.
Teich is Vice-President of the Student Body, member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and plays on the lacrosse club. He is an intern in the Sports Information of Bradley Athletics Dept. and does play-by-play broadcasting for Braves Vision. Teich stated, “it’s impossible to be involved with every campus activity, but the ones he is involved with he does with “heart.” This February he is headed to Sochi, Russia as intern for the prestigious NBC 2014 Winter Olympics. Teich is one of six Bradley students selected by NBC to experience and work with the Winter Olympics in Russia.
“I think I am most excited about seeing what the Olympics is like from a completely different angle. I am so used to watching it from the comfort of my own home, but being there in the moment will be incredible,” Teich said.
““I think the skill that I learned from Bradley is hard work and dedication, I have seen it a lot in everyone around me and I want to do the same thing and represent our university well,” Teich said.
