Wassim Elhouar, a senior at Bradley University with a major in English and a minor in journalism, has recently had his book, I Know What I Know Now, published. Written over a four-month span, I Know What I Know Now is a collection of ten short stories and a poem, all dealing with hip-hop, heartbreak, horror, and being Arab.
Elhouar has always enjoyed writing but his comments on the topic are a little surprising. "This might sound strange, but I think I've learned more about writing by waiting on tables than anything else. Think about it for a second - on a Friday or Saturday night, a server deals with a lot of people. That's a lot of conversation happening. From those conversations, you can pick out traits to give your characters, physical features, etc. Each shift is basically a goldmine waiting to be cultivated," stated Elhouar.
Elhouar sets his goals high. After graduation, he hopes to travel the world, maybe teach English somewhere in the Middle East, and go to the 2018 World Cup in Russia with the Tunisian national team, hopefully as part of the coaching staff.
