The History Club

August 9, 2011

The 2010-2011 academic year was a busy one for the History Club. The club held numerous game nights, and a movie night was held once a month, with members watching and discussing The Patriot, Apollo 13, A Knight’s Tale, and Lions for Lambs. In addition, the group played Apples to Apples dressed as historical figures; reenacted World War II with the game Risk; and had games of Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit with historical categories. Club members also met to plan class schedules for the upcoming year and spent a few meetings studying for exams. The group also held a debate in which the dropping of the atomic bomb and strategic bombing in World War II were discussed.

Some new positions were added for the coming year: a public relations position in charge of publicizing events and making T-shirts, a treasurer, and a historian to take pictures for the Facebook page. Next year, the $5 dues per semester will go toward events and road trips, including a visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield in September. The first meeting of the fall semester will be August 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Outgoing officers for the year were: Renae Stenger, president; Tommy Carroll, vice president; Karin Nelson, secretary; Kyle Mathers, Amanda Skie, and Allison Newman, executive representatives. Incoming officers are: Karin Nelson, president; Tommy Carroll, vice president; Kyle Mathers, secretary; Amanda Skie, Renae Stenger, and Allison Newman, executive representatives. Brad Brown is the club’s faculty adviser.
