National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE)
In accordance with the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. students will be allowed to sit for the National Certified Counselor (NCE) exam during the scheduled testing date in spring semester during internship.
Licensed School Counselor - Illinois
To be a licensed school counselor in the state of Illinois, students must follow state and college licensure procedures. Follow the instructions on the Procedure for State Professional Teaching License Application Process in the Program Attachment Section of the Student Handbook. Also, remember that the Basic Skills Test (prior to April 2012) or the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) (after April 2012) and the School Counselor Test (#181) must be passed to complete the licensure process. Registration, dates, study guides and test frameworks for both of these tests may be found at http://www.icts.nesinc.com/. The Department of Teacher Education provides additional resources to prepare for the TAP and offers prep study sessions.
School Counseling Licensure for another state
Information for application forms can be obtained by writing to the Teacher Certification Office at the state capital for the state in which you are applying. Addresses and phone numbers for these offices may be obtained from the EHS College Records Support or the Certification Officer. Caution: An Illinois state counseling license permits you to counsel only in the state of Illinois.
Licensed Professional Counselor
Granted by the Illinois Division of Financial and Professional Regulation. The application and directions are available at http://www.idfpr.com/PROFS/Info/ProfCounselor.asp. One of the forms, ED Certificate of Education that documents your education at Bradley University, must be given to the Certification Officer in Westlake Hall #216 to be signed, sealed, and returned to you. The NCE exam must be taken and passed.
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
After "2 years of full-time satisfactory supervised experience working as a clinical professional counselor under the direction of a qualified supervisor," you may apply for the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. The application and directions are available at http://www.idfpr.com/PROFS/Info/ProfCounselor.asp. Again the form, ED Certificate of Education, must be given to the Certification Officer in Westlake Hall #216 to be signed, sealed, and returned to you to submit along with the rest of the application
