Master of Liberal Studies (MLS)

Program Overview
The Liberal Studies Program is designed to provide motivated adults with opportunities to continue intellectual growth by integrating knowledge and perspectives for different disciplines in an innovative and challenging manner. The program introduces students to the pleasures and principles of science, the arts, technology, and the humanities as a means of exploring the problems and possibilities of life in modern society. A broad spectrum of faculty from different areas teach in the program.
Program Requirements
All coursework must be on the 600-level in MLS courses. A minimum of 30 semester hours is required for the degree. In the final semester of the program, the candidate will participate in a colloquium with members of the MLS faculty. The MLS faculty in cooperation with each candidate shall devise the colloquium.
Tuition Rate
The Liberal Studies Program is offered at the reduced tuition rate of $400 per semester hour. Other Graduate School financial assistance is not available to MLS students.
Estimated Time to Complete the Program
The Liberal Studies Program is offered on a part-time basis only. Students should expect to spend three to four years to complete the program. The maximum time allowed to complete the program is five years.
Admission Requirements
Admission to the MLS program is limited to those who qualify for unconditional admission to the Graduate School. A personal letter of intent and an interview will be required in addition to the application requirements of the Graduate School.
