A. Funding for Research Projects
The purpose of this category is to assist in the costs of
research, with the clearly intended outcome of presentation and
a submitted publication. Funding is available for individual projects
for up to $1500/semester/group. Applications to other funding sources
is encouraged:
Allowable
expenses:
1. Start-up money for a new project, or continuation of a current project
2. Legitimate costs include:
a. Cost for a research instrument, e.g., questionnaires,
CD-ROMs
b. Research assistants
c. Laboratory costs: costs of chemicals, procedures,
and instruments (limited)
d. Travel to become familiar with other research
in the area, workshops, liaison
What will not
be considered:
1. This fund is not intended to replace departmental or external funding.
2. Hardware, software, or printers should be funded through individual departments.

Research
Checklist:
___1. Clear and concise description of the current research project
(maximum 4 pages):
a) Merit
(contribution to the field, benefit to the department, college, or university)
b) A
problem statement (clear, concise statement of research)
c) Objectives
(to be achieved in this research and future if applicable)
d) Methodology,
and (summary of methods and procedures)
e) Expected
outcomes (time-line for completion, will this lead to future research)
___2. Letter of support from the chair.
___3. Detailed budget and rationale: overall and funds requested from CRS (1 page). It is important to show personal, departmental, or external contributions. What
part of the overall cost will CRS funding contribute?
___4. Abbreviated curricular vita of principal investigator (1-2
pages demonstrating research expertise)
___5. If you have received previous funding from CRS, make sure that you have updated the publication status for the research in the CRS office. If you are unsure, check with Paige Stevens at ext 3181.
Commitment:
By accepting this grant, you commit to:
1. Submit a 1-page
report to CRS at completion of this research
2. Present at a Research Forum meeting, if requested.
3. Submit a presentation or publication of this research and hand
in a copy
of the abstract or manuscript respectively.
4. Submit an abstract for presentation at a national/state meeting and/or
a manuscript for publication to a peer review journal within one
year of completion of the research supported by this grant. Send
a copy of the abstract or manuscript to CRS.
B. Support for
Research Presentations
The purpose of this funding resource is to assist faculty
who have been accepted, through a peer review process, to present
their research (posters or oral) at national or international meetings.
Funding is available up to $1500 per presentation (if it is a group
presentation, it is up to individuals to decide how the money is
used). All individuals claiming support must be listed on the program
as presenters. Provide IRB approval number along with the title of the presentation.
Detailed budget and rationale must be provided: It is important to provide a budget that indicates what specific portions of your expenses will be contributed by your department, outside contributers, and what you are requesting from CRS. Allowable
expenses (to be submitted with proposal):
1. Travel support in addition to departmental funding and personal expenses
or outside funding:
a) Air or car fare for all presenters
b) Hotel stay for 2 nights (before and after
presentation)
c) Meals for 1 travel day and 2 conference days
2. Costs of presentation material
Presentation
Checklist:
___1. Name of the conference and evidence of acceptance, such as a letter of acceptance or program of the
meeting or section of presentation with names of the presenters.
a) State whether oral
or poster presentation
b) If oral presentation,
state the length of the presentation
c) In case of multiple
presenters, include name of each presenter, with their specific
topic and time of presentation
d) Statement whether
this is the first time for presentation of this research or an extension
of previous research. If not first time:
i. list conference(s) and date of previous presentation
ii. clearly state the rationale for a repeat presentation,
e.g. new data or follow-up study
iii. include copy of manuscript submitted to peer-review journal or reference of publication
e) A statement of how this presentation or research differs from prior presentations, or further contributes to the field, or will result in new publications
___2. Include abstract as submitted to the conference
___3. State commitment to submit to a peer-reviewed journal within one semester following the presentation. To which
journal do you anticipate submitting?
___4. Submit a copy of the article as submitted to the journal the
following semester (acceptance is not necessary).
___5. Statement of contribution from department
___6. Letter of support from department chair.
___7. If previous grant
received, update publication status for that conference presentation.
Commitment:
By accepting this grant, you commit to submit a manuscript for publication
to a peer review journal within six months after this presentation.
Send a copy of the manuscript to CRS.
C. Funding to assist publications
Limited funding (up to $500) is available to assist authors
with the cost of publications when additional charges are involved:
1. Statement of acceptance from the journal and publication date.
2. A clear statement that this is a refereed peer-reviewed journal.
3. A copy of the costs, e.g., journal charges and illustrations.
4. Copy of the article as accepted for publication, including journal title
and authors.
To be considered for funding, ALL proposals must be in by
the stated deadlines. Proposals submitted after the deadline will
only be considered for the next semester.

Notification:
The CRS Administrative Council evaluates proposals and makes recommendations
to the CRS Director who submits them to the EHS Dean for final approval.
The researchers will be notified within a reasonable time by mail.
