FORMAL
RELIGIOUS OBSERVATION OR INSTRUCTION (top)
The
Child Study Center offers no religious instruction, nor do we formally
observe religious holidays.
VISITS,
TRIPS, AND EXCURSIONS (top)
Field
trips are restricted to walking trips to parts of the Bradley campus.
On the last day of each session in the Spring semester, we will
walk to Bradley Park and spend the session there, weather permitting.
It is expected that parents or other responsible adults will accompany
the children, in addition to the lead and assistant teachers of
the Center.
HEALTH
(top)
For
the protection of all children, do not bring your child if he or
she shows any symptoms of illness, especially runny nose, cough
or fever.
Do
not bring your child if she/he has been sick during the night.
If your child develops a contagious disease, please notify the head
teacher.
According
to state law, a medical report must be submitted to the Center for
each child. A copy of the proper medical form is enclosed,
along with the application form. The medical form should be
returned on or before the first day of class.
Dates
of immunization must be recorded. TB skin tests and
lead screening are required as noted on the medical report.
In
the event of an emergency requiring immediate care, the emergency
number 911 will be employed and the recommendations of the emergency
response team followed. Parents will be notified promptly,
or if parents cannot be reached, the person designated as emergency
contact on the application will be notified.
Please
note that we take precautions to guard against injuries, including
supervision of children and regular inspections of the room and
equipment. However, accidents can happen. We recommend
you contact your health insurance provider for reimbursement of
any expenses.
DISCIPLINE
(top)
To
request a copy of the “Guidance and Discipline Policy,” please call
(309) 677-2338 or (309) 677-2382.
CLOTHING
AND SUPPLIES (top)
Type
of Dress: Washable, comfortable play clothes are suggested.
During the winter months, long pants are recommended for both boys
and girls. Please mark child's name on all outerwear (boots,
coats, sweaters, hats, etc.). For reasons of sanitation, children
not yet in training pants should wear disposable diapers
to the center. Plastic pants may be worn over these.
Items
to be left at the Center during the session: (Bring to the
first session)
One
complete change of clothing, placed in a bag with your child's name
on it. Slightly outgrown garments (child can still squeeze into
them) should do, since they are for emergency use only.
For
children still in diapers, a supply of your favorite brand of disposable
diapers. Enough to last a week should always be on hand
at the Center. We'll let you know when you need to replenish
your supply. Write your child's name on the box or sack.
ARRIVAL
AND DEPARTURE
(top)
Please
bring your child into the room upon arrival, and come to the room
to get him/her at dismissal time. No child will be permitted
to leave with anyone except the parents, unless otherwise notified
in writing.
The
children should be in the building no earlier than 8:50 a.m. and
they must be picked up promptly at 11:30 a.m. for the morning sessions.
Afternoon session children should be in the building no earlier
than 12:20 p.m. and they must be picked up promptly at 3:00 p.m.
Detailed parking regulations will be mailed to you. If your
child has not been picked up by 10 minutes after the above pick
up time, phone calls will be made, first to parents, then to other
persons who usually pick up the child, and then to the emergency
person listed on your application. There is no fee for late
pick up.
PARENT'S
PRESENCE
(top)
In order to facilitate
your child's adjustment to the Center, you are asked to remain at
the Center during the first session. This session will be
shorter than usual, ending by 10:30 a.m. for the toddlers and three-year-olds,
and ending by 2:00 p.m. for four-year-olds.
Parents are invited to
observe in the Child Study Center as soon as the observation booth
sign-up sheet is in place. The observation booth only has
room for two adults, so please make use of the sheet to schedule
your visit. Knock on the classroom door and wait to enter
so we can engage your child's attention. Parents are also
encouraged to come to the Center to share any expertise, hobbies,
or special holidays parents feel the children will appreciate.
Please schedule these visits with the lead teacher.
TOYS
(top)
If the child has a special
“security” toy, this may be brought; otherwise, personal toys should
be left at home. Books, records, cassettes, and CDs to share
are welcome. Please mark them with the child's name.
PARENT-TEACHER
COMMUNICATIONS (top)
If at any time you have
questions, comments, or suggestions regarding the Center and/or
your child, please feel free to discuss them with the co-directors
or the head teacher. Regular conferences will normally be
scheduled toward the end of each semester. Newsletters will
be issued in August, October, November, January, March, and April.
OBSERVERS
(top)
Bradley students enrolled
in courses in child development, psychology, early child education,
and related areas are frequent observers in the Center. The
only information made available to them is the children's first
names, birth dates, and previous nursery school attendance.
INSURANCE
(top)
Bradley University carries
liability insurance. Parents are responsible for all medical
costs resulting from attendance at the Center.
