| FCS
Education Majors teach learners, parents, and other educational
professionals by instructing, consulting, and training in the formal
and informal classroom. Students with this degree may teach
in the secondary FCS department; teach adults; or work in Cooperative
Extension, in retail training departments, and in other corporations
with training and public relations departments.

Students
who choose the FCS Education major can meet Illinois certification
requirements for teaching FCS in junior and senior high schools.
Graduates receiving certification have found employment in
public schools throughout
the United States.
A minimum
of 38 semester
hours in FCS is required, including the FCS core (required
courses and four-year plan). Student
teaching (ETE 499) fulfills the professional work experience requirement.
As
in any good program, revisions are being made continually;
student should consult the Teacher Education Department Chair about
current program requirements.
Secondary
teacher candidates should refer to the teacher education department
for requirements in professional education courses for secondary
education. Candidates will have an advisor in both Family
and Consumer Sciences and in Department of Teacher Education.
