Kevin
Randall joined the Department in 2006, and teaches Introduction
to Family & Consumer Sciences, Family Systems and Applications,
and Family Relations. In addition to his service as director of
the C.C. Wheeler Institute, his current
research focuses on (a) the effects of a brief, family-focused intervention
on academic success through growth factors of school engagement;
(b) a comprehensive investigation of the Duke Older Americans Resources
and Services Procedures -a multidimensional functional assessment
of older adults, centenarians in particular; and (c) ethics education
through experiential learning in Family and Consumer Sciences.
Background
Dr.
Randall worked as a prevention research scientist for Iowa State
University's Partnerships in Prevention Science Institute, evaluating
randomized-controlled trials of family and school based preventive
interventions. In addition to the reduction of risk factors for
youth substance and conduct problem behaviors, his research focus
included the protective factors of increased parenting competencies,
student school engagement, and academic success. His recent publications
are found in Psychology of Addictive Behaviors and School
Psychology Quarterly.

Dr.
Randall received his Ph.D. and M.S. from Iowa State University;
his Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary; and his B.S. in education
from Illinois State University. He is a Certified Family Life Educator
(CFLE) through the National Council on Family Relations (www.ncfr.org).
