Major Requirements
Within the major, students
select either the Foods and Nutrition, or the Dietetics concentration.
This major and concentrations can be accessed from the undergraduate
catalog under the College of Education and Health Sciences,
Department of Family and Consumer Sciences.
All majors complete:
- Courses in nutrition and foods, including introductory foods,
nutrition, consumer health issues and community nutrition
- Science courses, including biology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry,
and statistics
- Social science courses, including psychology, economics, and
english
Foods and Nutrition
concentration (Required
courses and four-year plan)
Students selecting the
Foods and Nutrition concentration will select an additional 10 hours
from nutrition, food service, and foods courses, as well as complete
a required minor in the field of interest, as described in the undergraduate
catalog.
Dietetics concentration
(Required courses and four-year
plan)
Students selecting the Dietetics
concentration will complete additional sciences, such as microbiology
and pathophysiology, as well as required courses in business, marketing,
investigative foods, advanced nutrition, medical nutrition therapy
and food service management, as described in the undergraduate
catalog.
Check out what's happening at Lydia's Lounge! Lydia's Lounge, which opened in University Hall in early 2008, provides students with a late-night, alcohol-free social environment. Open Friday to Sunday, comedians and bands play on the weekends while the Lounge is open throughout the week for relaxing, studying, or watching TV. Numerous events such as voter registration day have also been hosted at Lydia's Lounge.
