Clothing
and textile, food and nutrition, human ecology, childcare and family—these
intriguing and important areas form the core of the general family
and consumers sciences
majors, and there are a number of interesting options to consider.
The General Major
(Required courses
and four-year plan)
This
flexible curriculum is for students who have special interests in
areas
such as foods and journalism, interior design, or cooperative extension.
A faculty advisor will
help each student design his or her own program.

Students
are encouraged to consider a complementary second major or minor
to correspond to their career interests or goals. Those interested
in interior design should consider art, business, and construction
courses as suggested by the student's academic advisor. Students
interested in family/child development should consider courses in
psychology and sociology as suggested by his or her academic advisor.
Students
who wish to prepare for entrance to a graduate program in Human
Development Counseling (HDC) may wish to consider an undergraduate
major in FCS. The study of FCS gives significant background
to undergraduate students in cognate areas important to families
today. This undergraduate major is articulated with the graduate
major in counseling at Bradley with the Department of Educational
Leadership and Human Development.
