Kathleen J. Buchko
Kathleen J. BuchkoAn associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Human Development, Kathleen J. Buchko teaches several courses, including Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Practicum and Internship, and Principles of Group Counseling. Her research interests include spirituality in mental health and wellness, along with sport and exercise psychology issues. Dr. Buchko is currently the Director of the department’s Counseling and Research Training Clinic.

Prior to joining ELH, Dr. Buchko worked in the student counseling centers at Bradley University and Illinois State University. She worked primarily with college-age students, focusing on issues of depression, eating disorders, and trauma. She also worked in private practice for many years, working mainly with adults. Dr. Buchko was also a medical social worker after her undergraduate work. She is married to Dr. Aaron Buchko, a full professor also at Bradley University, and has a son and a daughter. She is a lifelong athlete and enjoys running, biking, basketball, and softball. Ever hopeful, Kathleen is an avid supporter of the Chicago Cubs.

Dr. Buchko received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Michigan State University in 1994. She also holds two master’s degrees from Michigan State University in agency and sport psychology. She received two bachelor’s degrees from Bradley University in psychology and social services in 1984. Dr. Buchko is currently a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
