An
assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and
Human Development, Kathleen J. Buchko has taught several courses,
including Community Counseling, Internship, Principles of Group
Counseling, and Counseling and the Dynamics of Aging.
Her current research interests include spirituality in mental health
and wellness, along with motivation and confidence in sport. Dr. Buchko
also serves as the sport psychologist for the Bradley University athletic
department.
Professor Buchko organizes focus groups
and interviews to help improve and update course content. She
strongly recommends student research and regularly serves on
students’ thesis committees.
Background
Prior to joining ELH, Dr. Buchko worked in the student
counseling centers at Bradley University and Illinois State
University. She worked primarily with college-age students, focusing
on issues of depression, eating disorders, and trauma. She also
worked as a medical social worker after her undergraduate work. For
the past seven years, Kathleen has maintained a private practice in
counseling. She is married to Dr. Aaron Buchko, an associate
professor also at Bradley University, and has a son and daughter.
She is a lifelong athlete and enjoys running, basketball, and
softball. Ever hopeful, Kathleen is an avid supporter of the Chicago
Cubs.
Degrees & Certification Dr.
Buchko received her PhD in counseling psychology from Michigan State
University in 1994. She also received two master’s degrees from
Michigan State University in agency counseling and sport psychology.
She received two bachelor’s degrees from Bradley University in
psychology and social services
in 1984. |
