Among the human development
counseling courses Nancy Sherman teaches are
Appraisal of the Individual, Pre-practicum, and Practicum/Internship.
She was the found director and is the current director of the Counseling
Research and Training Clinic and her research interests include
microcounseling supervision, caregiving and the elderly, and counselor
burnout.
Background
Prior to joining the Department of Educational Leadership and Human
Development in 1992, Dr. Sherman held positions as a professional
counselor at Denison University; at The Womens Tri-County
Help Center, Inc., CompDrug, Inc., and in private practice. Her
APA-approved doctoral internship in psychology was completed at
the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Dr. Sherman
was recently awarded a Fulbright Lecturing Award to teach social
work courses at the Higher School of Social Work and Social Pedagogy
Attistiba in Riga, Latvia. Her most recent articles
appear in Dzîves jautâjumi and The British
Journal of Counseling and Development. Dr. Sherman and Dr.
Russell-Chapin coauthored a videotape and CDOM for Microtraining
Associates, Inc. on microcounseling supervision.
Since 1995, Dr. Sherman
has served as Faculty Advisor to the Beta Phi Chapter of
Chi Sigma Iota, International Counseling Academic and Professional
Honor Society. The Beta Phi Chapter has received two international
awards of excellence and Dr. Sherman is currently President-elect
of the organization.
Dr. Sherman is a National
Certified Counselor, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (Illinois),
and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. She received a B.A. in
English from the State University of New York at Oswego; a M.A.
in College Student Personnel from Bowling Green State University;
and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the Ohio State University.
