At the graduate level, Dr. Gard teaches leadership and health assessment,
advises students, and guides student research. At the undergraduate
level, she coordinates the sophomore level and teaches sophomore students
in the lab and clinical environments. She also advises and guides
registered nurse students returning for the baccalaureate degree.
Background
Prior to coming to the Department of Nursing, Dr. Gard worked as a
staff nurse in Montana and Wyoming. She also taught nursing
in an associate degree program and in two baccalaureate programs.
Dr. Gard’s research has included registered nurse perceptions
of legal responsibilities and registered nurse perceptions of baccalaureate
education. She has published on the accreditation process and
made presentations on systematic program evaluation. She is
currently interested in research on aging and work with Native Americans.
Degrees & Certification
Dr. Gard received her PhD (1999) in educational administration from
Illinois State University. She received her MN (1965) and BSN
(1963) from Montana State University. She received her basic
nursing education at Carroll College and St. Vincent Hospital in Montana.
