Deborah Erickson joined the Department of Nursing faculty in 2001. As an assistant professor, her primary teaching responsibilities are at the undergraduate level; she teaches health assessment content at the sophomore level, medical-surgical content in the classroom at the junior level, and in the clinical setting at the senior level. Dr. Erickson also enjoys witnessing
students using newly acquired skills to complete an integrated health
assessment on a patient. She also enjoys interacting with
students from different majors across campus in the "Men's
Health Issues" course she teaches each fall semester. Her area
of clinical expertise is medical-surgical nursing, specifically
caring for patients after surgery and those with diabetes mellitus
and cardiovascular disorders. Her current research focuses
on barriers to physical activity in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
In addition to her teaching
responsibilities, Dr. Erickson is an advisor for the Bradley Nursing
Student Association and is a Grand Chapter judge each semester for the Greek system on campus. She also serves as the chair of the University Student Grievance Committee.
Background
Prior to joining the Department of Nursing in 2001, Dr. Erickson
taught in baccalaureate, associate, and diploma nursing programs
in Illinois and Kentucky. She is a contributor to several
nursing textbooks.

Dr. Erickson earned her BSN (1977) from the University of
Michigan, her MSN (1980) from Vanderbilt University, and PhD (2008) from Rush University. |
