Deborah Erickson joined the Department of Nursing faculty in 2001. As an assistant professor, her primary teaching responsibilities are at the undergraduate level; she teaches health assessment content at the sophomore level, medical-surgical content in the classroom at the junior level, and in the clinical setting at the senior level. Dr. Erickson also enjoys witnessing students using newly acquired skills to complete an integrated health assessment on a patient.  She also enjoys interacting with students from different majors across campus in the "Men's Health Issues" course she teaches each fall semester.  Her area of clinical expertise is medical-surgical nursing, specifically caring for patients after surgery and those with diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disorders.   Her current research focuses on barriers to physical activity in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Erickson is an advisor for the Bradley Nursing Student Association and is a Grand Chapter judge each semester for the Greek system on campus. She also serves as the chair of the University Student Grievance Committee.
