Curriculum and Instruction - Master of Arts Degree

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS OVERVIEW

 

The Curriculum and Instruction Program requires a minimum of 33 semester hours for the Master of Arts Degree.  The program is comprised of the following components:

PROFESSIONAL CORE............................................... 18 Hours


  • Foundations and Research (6 Hrs.)

    ELH 604  Research Methodology and Applications

    ELH 605  Legal and Social Change

  • Educational Technology Component (3 Hrs.)

    ETE 551  Technology Applications and Integration

  • Curriculum and Instruction (9 Hrs.)

    ETE 553  Cultural Diversity and Schooling

    ETE 651  Curriculum Theory and Development

    ETE 653  Instructional Strategies and Designs

DIRECTED ELECTIVE .................................................  3 Hours

One course might be selected from among the following:

ETE 552  Assessment Alternatives

ETE 643  Assessment and Evaluation Practicum

   for Learners With Exceptionalities

ETE 654  Program Evaluation

Note:  ETE 543 Assessment and Evaluation Procedures for Learners

With Exceptionalities does not count as an assessment course for the C & I program.

AREA OF CONCENTRATION.........................................  9 Hours minimum

The student must select one of the following areas:

Assessment

Early Childhood Education

Educational Technology

Gifted Education

Literacy and Reading

Science Education

Multidisciplinary*

*consists of two courses from one of the above areas plus one course from a second area.

CAPSTONE OPTION ..................................................  3 Hours minimum

Students must choose one of the following options:

A.  30 hours of coursework plus ETE 655 Instructional Theory plus a

     Comprehensive Examination (Total of 3 hrs.)

B.  27 hours of coursework plus 6 hours of ETE 699 Thesis (Total of 6 hrs.)

C.  27 hours of coursework plus ETE 655 Instructional Theory plus ETE 698

     (action research project, creative product, or program portfolio)

     (Total of 6 hrs.)
