Special Opportunities

Students in the Department of Teacher Education have access to a range of state-of-the-art resources, plus a number of scholarships and other opportunities.

Some details:

Undergraduate awards and scholarships are available for currently enrolled juniors and seniors. There are also scholarships available for graduate students. Information, current application forms, directions, and deadlines are available on the Blackboard site. After you log on to Blackboard, go to Teacher Education – All Majors, click on the Information tab on the left, and select the folder for Scholarship Opportunities.

Our students use College LiveText, which is software that enables students to compose lesson plans, access various content/subject matter standards, and scan and/or otherwise store their work online.   Students begin to develop their program portfolios on LiveText early in their matriculation, and add to it throughout their time at Bradley.  During student teaching, students complete their portfolios on LiveText where they can be reviewed and assessed.

The Institute for Gifted and Talented Youth offers courses in gifted education and engages students in a variety of activities.  Students work with gifted children in various venues, including short summer courses or Saturday events called Super Saturdays.  More about the institute…

The Multimedia Production and Preview Center is designed to help students (and faculty) integrate state-of-the-art multimedia into classroom instruction.

The Simpson Curriculum Materials Center is a terrific collection of textbooks, reference books, children's literature, and teaching materials used in elementary and secondary schools—a great resource for student teachers and master’s candidates working in curriculum development.

Research activities are often available to students, including involvement in faculty projects.   Some of these projects include work with students in area schools and studying applications of strategies in classroom settings.   While we don’t have a lab school setting, we do have special relationships with several Professional Development Schools.  Through our PDS relationships, our faculty do some special work with teachers in these schools and our students have access to the schools’ classrooms and special projects/events.
