The Audit Process
Preliminary Information Analysis
With preliminary
information supplied by the manufacturer, the IAC team conducts relevant
literature research and determines what additional data is needed. Vital
information needed before conducting audit are a completed pre-audit form
and copies of utility bills for the twelve months period prior to the audit
date. If manufacturer doesn’t have the utility bills they can send a letter
authorizing the BU IAC to obtain the bills directly from the utility
company. These forms are included in the Assessment
Information Package.
Plant Visit
An initial meeting is held
between the IAC team and the plant representatives who will participate in
the assessment. The visit usually takes about six to eight hours (depending
on plant size). The purpose of this meeting is for the IAC representative
to explain the services being offered, obtain background information, and
identify other data needed for the assessment. During the visit day, the focus
will be on cost savings opportunities related to Energy Conservation, Waste
Minimization and Productivity Enhancement.
Items that the team will be
considering during the visit are based on the information distilled from
the utility bills (electricity, gas, and water), and the pre-audit form,
including.
· Lighting
· Air
Compressors
· Furnaces/Ovens
· Boilers
· HVAC
Equipment
· Waste
Streams
Visit Day Activities:
Following a brief
introduction of the BUIAC team and the IAC program, the team will require a
facility tour, starting from the point at which the raw materials arrive at
the facility, following the manufacturing process to the point where the
final product leaves. Following the facility tour, the team will have a
brainstorming session in which all possible areas that the team will wish
to focus upon will be identified. Then, team members will return into the
facility and gather data from certain equipment and processes. Before
leaving, the team will meet with plant representatives to discuss
preliminary recommendations.
The team
will then return to Bradley and begin preparing a report. Within one
week, the company will be contacted to obtain additional information that
the team was unable to obtain on the visit day.
Assessment Report
Following the plant visit,
the IAC team spends time researching, evaluating, and developing the
Assessment Recommendations. These ideas are combined in an assessment
report that is sent to the client. Included are total savings,
implementation costs, and payback period for each action recommended. The
client can expect e a copy of the report within 60 days.
Follow-up Activities
In approximately three to
six months, an IAC represantative will make one
final contact with the client to determine how well the report has served the
company and to learn how many, if any, of the Assessment Recommendations (ARs) have been implemented.
