Who benefits from an industrial assessment?
Participating companies
IAC assessments yield
recommendations that if implemented, can save a manufacturer as much as 10%
of their annual energy expenses. This audit is useful for companies by
showing them how to accomplish savings and not to waste energy. Generally,
Assessment Recommendations have a payback period of less than three years,
and the rate of return on these investments is greater than ten percent.
Participating Universities
Through the IACs, universities build valuable local industry
relationships that help maintain a practical focus in their engineering
curricula. Awareness of the program and the opportunity to participate as
it helps attract interested undergraduate and graduate engineering
students.
Participating Students
The next generation of
energy-savvy engineers is being prepared in today's IAC programs. Each
year, many students participate in the IACs,
nationwide, gaining valuable hands-on experience in auditing and assuring
key industrial operations, systems, and processes, an experience that can
jump-start their engineering careers.
U.S. Taxpayers
The Department of Energy
Office of Industrial Technologies provides financial and technical support
to the IACs. The nation's economy benefits from
more competitive small and medium-sized manufacturers--- a sector that
accounts for over 50 percent of U.S.
manufacturing employment. In addition, they will be able to enhance energy
security and environmental benefits from decreased energy and resource use.
