Program Overview
Two levels of graduate degrees are offered in art: an initial graduate degree (MA) and a terminal graduate degree (MFA). The Master of Arts degree is advantageous for those wishing to pursue post-graduate work in art. The Master of Fine Arts degree is a terminal degree program for the professional studio artist and prepares individuals to teach at the university level. Concentrations are offered in drawing/illustration, ceramics, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, visual communication and design, and interdisciplinary art studies. The Department of Art at Bradley University is the recipient of the William Rainey Harper Award for Departmental Excellence, 2001-2002.
Program Requirements
The MA - Art program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours. The MFA program requires a minimum of 60 semester hours. Students are allowed to advance to candidacy with an oral and visual presentation to the graduate faculty after completion of 9 semester hours and before 18 hours. The graduate faculty will make a decision regarding the student's continuation in the program. Each student must participate in the biennial graduate exhibition. A residency of 48 semester hours is required for the MFA degree and 24 semester hours for the MA degree. A written comprehensive examination must be passed before graduation. Please see the Graduate Catalog for a complete listing of degree requirements.
