Program Overview
The Department of Accounting offers a graduate program leading to the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) degree. The MSA is designed for individuals who have already earned a bachelor's degree in accounting (or the equivalent) and wish to further their education. The MSA will be useful to undergraduate students wishing to complete the 150 hour educational requirement needed to sit for the CPA exam. The MSA will also be useful to practicing accountants wishing to further their education. The graduate accounting classes focus on recent professional developments. These and the elective courses can be tailored to meet the student's specific interests and needs.
Accreditation
The Department of Accounting has received separate accounting accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). AACSB is the premier accrediting body for business and accounting programs. Only 163 business schools in the United States have both business and accounting accreditations. In the Midwest, only seven private schools have an AACSB accredited accounting program. Of these, Bradley is the only mid-sized, comprehensive university in the state of Illinois.
Program Facts
The MSA Program requires 30 semester hours of study. Half of these hours are in accounting and the remaining hours are electives. Most accounting classes and elective classes are taught during the evenings. In addition to traditional fall and spring semesters, courses are also offered during January and various summer interim terms. A full-time student can complete the MSA in one year.
The demand for accounting graduates exceeds the supply. Our students are recruited by public accounting firms ranging from the Big 4 to local firms. Some examples include Deloitte and Touche, PricewaterhouseCoopers, KPMG, Clifton Gunderson, and Virchow Krause. Also, many large corporations employ our graduates. Some examples include Caterpillar, ADM, State Farm, Accenture, and Hewitt. The placement rate has been nearly 100% for the past several years.
The Department of Accounting has nine faculty. All faculty hold at least one major accounting accreditation (e.g., CPA, CIA, CMA, CFE). Our faculty are specialists who focus their teaching and research on specific areas. This permits each professor to remain current and bring up-to-date knowledge to the classroom.
Integrated 3:2 Master of Science in Accounting Program
The Department of Accounting also offers an Integrated 3:2 Master of Science in Accounting Program for students who want to earn both undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting. During the first three years at Bradley, the student focuses on the regular undergraduate curriculum. During the next two years, the student takes a combination of undergraduate and graduate classes. The bachelor's and master's degrees are awarded concurrently. The student's scholarships and financial aid continue through the duration of the 3:2 program.
