Program Overview
The chemistry program is designed for students who wish to advance their knowledge and professional careers by taking advanced work in chemistry and related disciplines. The Chemistry Department is well equipped for teaching and research activities with instrumentation for x-ray fluorescence, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, infra-red and ultraviolet visible spectroscopy, thermal analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy, liquid and gas chromatography, and mass spectrometry.
Estimated Time to Complete the Program
The Master of Science in Chemistry is offered on a part-time basis. Students can expect to spend two to four years to complete the program. Students may take up to a maximum of five years to complete the program.
Program Requirements
Candidates for the MS degree must take a minimum of 30 semester hours in chemistry and related subjects. Of these hours, 6 semester hours must be devoted to original research. A publishable thesis is required for graduation based on this research. Of the remaining 24 semester hours, up to a maximum of 12 semester hours may be taken at the graduate level in cognate fields such as engineering, education, mathematics, business or biology.
