Program Overview

The Industrial Engineering program stresses the role of industrial engineers as problem solvers at managerial and staff levels in both manufacturing and service industries.  The program offers the opportunity to make a specific plan of study, beyond the IE core, for each student based on his/her educational background and career objectives.  Typical program concentrations include Quality Sciences, Reliability Engineering, Applied Egonomics, Manufacturing Management, and Production Control.  Courses can be selected from engineering, sciences, mathematics, computer science, and business administration.

Program Requirements

The total program is 30 semester hours of graduate level work, of which a minimum of 18 must be taken IE designated courses, including 3 semester hours of a project course to demonstrate ability to identify, define, and solve unstructured IE related problems.  A thesis option is also available.  Please see the Graduate Catalog for a detailed explaination of MSIE program requirements.

Estimated Time to Complete the Program

Students carrying a full-time course load can reasonably expect to complete the MSMI program in one and one-half to two years.  Students carrying a part-time course load have up to a maximum of five years to complete the program.
