Communicating with the Graduate School
It is extremely important when corresponding with the Graduate School that you be consistent in how your name is spelled and presented. When handwritten, please print clearly; typewritten is preferred. Provide us with your family (surname) first, followed by a comma, then list your first and second given names, in that order. For example: Shah, Govindra Kumar or Li, Ying-Ying. If your name appears differently on the other documents you submit, please attach a letter of explanation giving us the various ways your name will appear. Please do not use an initial or abbreviation for your last name! Thank you!
In the US we identify people by what we call your "last" name, which is your family name or surname, then your first name. Your application will be filed in our office and our computer database alphabetically by your family name. You will also be assigned an ID (identification) number. The fastest way for us to answer your questions about the status of your application is to give us your ID number.
Communicating by E-mail
When communicating with us by e-mail, we ask that you complete the subject line on each message you send as follows: SURNAME, First Name, Second Name, ID number (as given to you by the Graduate School). If you discontinue your account with your Internet provider, or if you change your address, please let us know immediately. We like to use e-mail to communicate with you , but find it very unfortunate that our message are sometimes "undeliverable" or neer reach you. Consequently, it is a good idea for you to acknowledge receipt of our message.
Our Graduate School office has just a few employees. We attempt to answer all e-mail within several days, but remember there will always be a delay between Friday afternoon and Monday due to the office being closed. If you do not hear from us within ten days, please send your message again and reference the date or your original e-mail.
We aks that you send your message to just one person or address at Bradley University, and that you send the message just once. If you have sent it to the wrong office, they will forward it to us. Just think about the amount of confusion and extra work that is caused when the same message is sent to three people and those same three people are busy trying to answer the same message!
ID Numbers
All applicants are assigned an application ID (identification) number at the time we record receipt of your application in the computer. This number will be provided to you in subsequent communications. We ask you to always use your ID number when communicating with us and to repeat your name by SURNAME, First Given Name and Second Given Name.
