The Application Process

1.  Receipt and recording of the application and supporting documentation: When your application is received a file for you is established in both hard copy and in our computer database.

2.  Initial review and notification: Your file is reviewed for completeness.  We will routinely notify you in writing if your file is incomplete and tell you what items are necessary to complete your file.  If your file is complete, it moves to the next processing stage.  If it is incomplete, it is not processed until the missing items are received.

3.  Detailed evaluation and summary: A close review of your file results in a written evaluation and summary of the information you have submitted.  This summary evaluation, along with a copy of your file, is forwarded to the department/program for faculty review and recommendation.  Occasionally, it is discovered that your file is missing some vital information.  If that is the case, we notify you of the missing information and do not process your file until the missing information is received.

4.  Department/program review and recommendation: Your file is reviewed by the faculty of the program to which you have applied.  They make a recommendation to the Graduate School regarding your application.

5.  Notification:  When the Graduate School receives the faculty recommendation, we review your application for admission and notify you in writing of the admission decision.  If you are accepted to the Graduate School, your application will then be considered for financial assistance.  Acceptance letters also include financial assistance award information.  In addition, your acceptance packet will include a Response Form, a student Health Form, and additional information for new international students, including orientation.

6.  Issuance of the I-20:  An I-20 form is issued to those students who have been accepted and have completed all the financial certification requirements.  Some students submit their financial certification documents after they receive notification of their acceptance.  In such cases, the I-20 form is mailed when we receive all the required documentation.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance for international students is severely limited.  We encourage the international applicants to seek scholarships or student loans from their home country if they do not have personal financial resources to cover the estimated expenses.  To be eligible for financial assistance, you must be admitted unconditionally to a master's degree program, have a minimum TOEFL score of 550, and excellent grades.  Graduate Tuition Scholarships and a limited number of Graduate Assistantships are available.

There is no separate application form for Graduate Tuition Scholarships.  There is a section on the Application for Graduate Admission where you may apply for Graduate Tuition Scholarships.  Check the box beside Graduate Tuition Scholarship in the Financial Assistance section of the application if you wish to apply.

There is a separate application for Graduate Assistantships.  If you wish to apply for a Graduate Assistantship you must complete the Graduate Assistantship Application and return it to the Graduate School along with your Application for Graduate School.  If you are awarded a graduate assistantship you will be notified in writing by the Graduate School.  Please remember that the number of graduate assistantships available is limited.

For more information on Graduate Tuition Scholarships and Graduate Assistantships, as well as the Graduate Assistantship Application Form, please see the Financial Assistance page.  Go >>

If you have not been awarded financial assistance, you may reapply for financial assistance after completing coursework at Bradley University, assuming you have met the general eligibility requirements (unconditional admission to a master's degree program, a minimum 550 TOEFL score, and excellent grades.)

As an international applicant you must be prepared to finance your study in the United States with no financial assistance from the university.  The university estimates education and living expenses at $21,000 each year, although this amount may vary accounting to individual student lifestyle.
