African-American Studies Minor

Bradley University's African-American Studies Program explores the cultural, social, economic and political experience of people of African descent in North and South America, the Caribbean, and in Africa. Unlike many other disciplines, African-American Studies represents a strong connection between the goals of academic excellence and community involvement. On campus, the African-American Studies Program presents lectures by prominent speakers, leaders, and scholars. The program also encourages students to do research in the various fields that make up African-American Studies including Economics, Education, English, History, International Studies, Political Science, and Sociology.

Bradley's program is designed for all students who have an interest in the history, life, and culture of African people. Students are encouraged to minor in African-American Studies and attend the many lectures and cultural activities planned for this year. It is important in today's world that people of all races and backgrounds gain a better understanding of each other. As America grows ever more diverse Bradley's program attempts to help not only African-Americans but all races to live in a world community.

The African-American Studies minor consists of six courses, three requirements and three electives (18 credit hours). The required courses are:

The electives must be selected from two categories, students may choose a total of three electives. The diverse course offerings of the African-American Studies Program are from the following departments:

A 2.0 gradepoint average in African-American Studies courses is required for satisfactory completion of the African-American Studies Minor. It is expected that each African-American Studies Minor will have knowledge of a language other than English.
