**WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2008.
The Biology Department at Bradley University is offering undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct independent research during the Summer of 2008. Funding for the summer research program will be provided from a National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates grant awarded to the Biology Department. Selected students will participate in a 10-week research program running from June 5 through August 13, 2008. The program is designed to integrate student research opportunities and education in research methodologies through hands-on experimentation, weekly seminars and discussions, and through a final participant research symposium. Each student will receive a stipend of $3,600, weekly meal allowance money for travel to the Bradley University campus in Peoria, Illinois (if needed), and free on campus housing.
Participants will work in collaborative research teams and will gain experience in molecular, physiological, organismal, community and ecosystem approaches to address real environmental problems along the Illinois River Corridor. Faculty mentors participating in the research projects have expertise in plant physiological and community ecology, ecosystem and soil ecology, genetic analysis of microbial community composition, comparative and integrative animal physiology, and soil and systems modeling.
