Each exam will account for 20% of the final grade, and the eight quizzes taken together will account for the remaining 20%. All exams and quizzes, except for makeup exams, will consist of machine-graded questions that will appear on the screen for one minute each. It is the student's responsibility to fill out the machine-readable response cards correctly. It is also the student's responsibility to supply his or her own No. 2 lead pencil for marking the cards. Only medical excuses from physicians will be accepted as sufficient reason for missing an exam. Anyone who objects to this form of test or test policy should drop the course and switch to another section. ATTENDANCE POLICY Attendance will be taken and the results will be used to determine grades in borderline situations. TEXT Thomas Greer, A Brief History of the Western World, 6th ed. NOTES One of the essential skills necessary for success in this course is the ability to listen and to assimilate the points made in lectures. In order to do this you will need to take good notes. If you are not writing throughout the lecture, something is wrong. You will also need to read and assimilate the points made in the text book. This also requires note-taking skills. If you do not have these skills, develop them quickly. INSTRUCTOR OFFICE HOURS Dr. Philip Jones Shortly before and after class 127-F Bradley Hall 8-10 am MWF 677-2397 1-2 pm MWF pdj@bradley
