Dr. Patton continues to work with his collaborative student research team, Bradley Evolutionary Algorithm Research (BEAR). This group, established in Fall 2000, provides an extra-curricular research focus for undergraduate and graduate students. The central focus is on application of various machine learning techniques, especially evolutionary algorithms. The group operates as a semi-formal research group, reviewing papers, brainstorming approaches to various problems of interest, and presenting results. Also, the group maintains and operates a 20 node Beowulf cluster for inter-departmental experimental research. Dr. Patton is also currently involved in the Peoria Robotics Research group, a multi-institutional research group focusing on technologies for the next generation of medical robotics. This group is a direct outgrowth of the Peoria Next initiative.
