Requirements for IS Majors

All students who are candidates for the Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of international studies should plan their program with the assistance of their advisor in accordance with the following requirements:

A total of 132 semester hours of acceptable undergraduate work with a cumulative GPA that exceeds 2.00, a minimum of 48 hours of junior-senior level courses, and at least 24 or the last 30 hours completed in residence.

I. UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS*

A. Basic Skills:
English Composition (ENG 101) or (CIV 111 & 112)
Advanced Composition
Math (MTH 111 fulfills both Basic Skills and Institute statistics requirements)
Speech (COM 103)

B. General Education:
Western Civilization (CIV 100, 101, 102 or CIV 111 & 112)
Literary Analysis
Fine Arts
Science and Technology (two courses)

II. INSTITUTE REQUIREMENTS

Introduction to Asian Studies - IS 182**
Theory and Practice of World Politics - IS 250**
Ideologies in International Affairs - IS 255
Problems of the Developing World - IS 275**
Advanced Seminar in International Studies - IS 495
International Studies (seven elective courses)

B.
Introduction to American Government - PLS 105
Principles of Micro Economics - ECO 221**
Principles of Macro Economics - ECO 222**
Statistics (MTH 111, PSY 205, QM 262 or PLS 209)
Foreign Language (six semesters or equivalent when available)
