ΣIR
Sigma Iota Rho is an interdisciplinary honor society
recognizing students specializing in the field of international
studies. The purpose of the organization is to promote and reward
scholarship and service among students and practitioners of
international studies, international relations, and global studies and
to foster integrity and creative performance in the conduct of world
affairs.
The Greek letters stand for the following Greek words:
Sigma - Σ "synesi,"
meaning Prudence;
Iota - Ι "ideosi,"
meaning Ideals; and
Rho - R "romi,"
meaning Power;
These three qualities are essential for the conduct
of successful foreign policy and signify some of the most important
values studied by those in the field.
