Dr. Schmitt has been at Bradley University since 1995 and is a Full Professor and Chair of Psychology. He is also a Caterpillar Inc. Professor of Psychology (Gallery of Excellence). 

Dr. Schmitt teaches Principles of Psychology, Quantitative Methods, Experimental Psychology, Motivation and Emotion, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology, Human Sexuality, and Personality Theories and Theorists.

Dr. Schmitt's research interests include:  Interpersonal Relationships, Cross-Cultural Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology, Adult Romantic Attachment, Big Five Personality Traits, Dark Triad Personality Traits (Machiavellianism, Narcissism, Psychopathy), Human Mating Strategies, Gender Equality across Cultures, Mental Health across Cultures, Mate Choice & Attraction, Domestic Violence & Rape, Risky-Sex & HIV/AIDS, and Infidelity & Mate Poaching. 

Dr. Schmitt heads the Personality and Culture Lab (PaC Lab) in the Department of Psychology.
