From: C&R Subcommittee on Curriculum

The C&R Subcommittee on Curriculum reviewed and approved the requests noted below. These were forwarded to the Curriculum and Regulations Committee for appropriate action. The following summary is provided for your action/information.

Foster College of Business Administration

Major modification

All undergraduate majors in the Foster College of Business Administration

This modification requests the deletion of BUS 200, Themes in Modern Business, as a required course for all undergraduate majors in the Foster College of Business Administration. Students will add one additional hour of elective credit to replace BUS 200. These hours may be selected from courses throughout the university. The elimination of BUS 200 from the core curriculum has been reviewed and unanimously recommended by representatives of all impacted departments of the Foster College of Business Administration.

Course deletion

BUS 200, Themes in Modern Business, .5 semester hours

Course description: Attendance at lectures approved by the Foster College of Business Administration. may be repeated for a maximum of 2 hours credit. Pass/fail.

BUS 200 was added to the FCBA curriculum in 1996 to allow undergraduate students to hear presentations by guest lecturers from the business community. The number of lecturers giving presentations has been limited. Some of the majors are ìpushing the upper limitî with the number of hours allowed by the Collegeís accrediting body. Deletion of the course will enable students in FCBA to elect one additional semester hour outside the college. The administrative burden of the course consumed more resources than expected. The FCBA executive and undergraduate curriculum committees agreed unanimously to the deletion of BUS 200.

College of Education and Health Sciences

Major modification

Music Education

The secondary education program modifications to the Music Education major are motivated by Illinois State Board of Education recommendations. The modification reflects changes in the clinical experiences component and in course content. The total number of hours in the program does not change. Students are assigned advisors in the Department of Teacher Education and in music. Regular consultation with both advisors is recommended.
