BRADLEY UNIVERSITY SENATE 1999-2000 SESSION
MINUTES
SPECIAL MEETING, MAY 5, 1999
The meeting was called to order in the alumni dining room of The Robert H. Michel Student Center at 3:53 P.M.
Kurt Field stated that he would be sending e-mail reminders of Senate meetings to all senators beginning next Fall. He will have an attachment, which will be the agenda. He tried to do so for the ninth meeting and this special meeting but the message was not sent correctly.
No items were added to the agenda.
Joan Sattler move to elect Nina Collins and Michael Greene to the Committee on Elections. Claire Etaugh seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Alan Galsky nominated Kurt Field for President of the University Senate. No further nominations were made and nominations were closed. Kurt Field was elected President of the University Senate.
Nina Collins nominated Larry Aspin for Vice President of the University Senate. No further nominations were made and nominations were closed. Larry Aspin was elected Vice President of the University Senate.
Joan Sattler nominated Mary Jo Mays for Secretary of the University Senate. No further nominations were made and nominations were closed. Mary Jo Mays was elected Secretary of the University Senate.
William Langley nominated Stephen Heinemann for Member-at-Large to the Executive Committee of the University Senate. No further nominations were made and nominations were closed. Stephen Heinemann was elected as a Member-at-Large to the Executive Committee of the University Senate.
Bernard Goitein nominated Fred Tayyari for Member-at-Large to the Executive Committee of the University Senate. No further nominations were made and nominations were closed. Fred Tayyari was elected as a Member-at-Large to the Executive Committee of the University Senate.
Kurt Field thanked Conley Stutz for being parliamentarian. Alan moved election of Richard Stalling as parliamentarian. Claire seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Kurt Field also recognized several outgoing senators. They included Conley Stutz, Margaret Carter, Suzanne Anderson, Douglas Thorson, and ex officio member, President John Brazil.
The following resolution was read to President John Brazil:
WHEREAS, during his service to Bradley University as eighth President, he made significant contributions to improve Bradley University and enabled further realization of the institution's potential, and
WHEREAS, his consistent energy, veracity, and commitment to excellence helped invigorate students, faculty and staff, and
WHEREAS, his leadership and pronounced dedication to the standards of the academy and advancement of the accomplishments of higher education were consistently demonstrated for the betterment of Bradley, and
WHEREAS, he ushered Bradley into its Centennial and culminated the celebration with an extraordinarily successful campaign, and
WHEREAS, he recognized and supported the faculty's
role in shared governance, and
WHEREAS, attempts to acknowledge fully his significance to Bradley University cannot but fall short of his true accomplishments,
THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the Bradley University Senate presents its most sincere and resounding appreciation to Dr. John R. Brazil, for his valued contributions to the University.
A photographic history of his tenure at Bradley University will be sent to him, once it is completed.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:08 P.M.
