RE: BRADLEY UNIVERSITY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION COMMITTEE SEMI-ANNUAL REPORT

The Affirmative Action committee has met regularly since October 1999. Our committee felt strongly that a major area of concern was the immediate replacement of the University Affirmative Action Director and urged action by the administration with regard to this hiring. Doan Modianos, Acting Affirmative Action Director, was asked to serve on the committee as an ex-officio member to keep us updated on the position replacement and on Affirmative Action issues pertinent of our committee.

The committee has studied the issue of the percentages of minority faculty hired at Bradley University and addressed ways to urge the recruitment and hiring of more minority faculty. Bradley is encouraged to be more proactive with Affirmative Action hiring policies.

The committee examined the proposed EHS multicultural course and felt that a change in the environment at Bradley would be more beneficial than adding another course which addresses diversity. The committee agrees that it is difficult to impact change through teaching diversity classes.

We will continue to address ways to improve the cultural climate for minority and international students attending Bradley University.
