RE: Spring 2000 Report from the Committee on University Resources

The Committee on University Resources met seven times during the FA99 semester. Of these, three were devoted to discussions with administrators. We met with Stan Liberty on 11/2/99, Gary Anna on 11/16/99, and Dave Pardieck on 12/7/99. Based on these interactions, as well as our own deliberations, the committee members believe the institution’s financial situation is stable. This is primarily due to the infusion of capital from the endowment and bond issue. The endowment has dramatically increased over the last few years due to the successful campaign and the excellent return on the investments held in the endowment fund. The endowment itself, as well as the additional revenue it generates, has helped the institution obtain a very good rating for the recent $35,000,000 bond issue, which will be devoted to "brick and mortar" projects. In addition, endowment revenues help support the technology plan, salary equity adjustments, and financial aid. In addition to the endowment, the institution’s financial situation has been favorably impacted by stable enrollment and discounting. In particular, Bradley has successfully met its enrollment targets for the last two years while controlling the increment in tuition discounting to bring in the class. If the endowment continues to grow, enrollment remains stable with a decreasing discount rate, and retention is increased, the financial outlook for Bradley is very good.
