The Degree
Bradley’s Actuarial Science-Business major is administered by the Department of Finance and Quantitative Methods. Actuarial Science students apply their mathematical, financial, and insurance knowledge skills in order to solve business problems as they arise, as well as setting a price tag for risk.

Curriculum
Many of the required courses for Actuarial Science-Business help students prepare for the standard actuarial exams administered by the Society of Actuaries. Succeeding as an actuary depends significantly on passing professional exams offered by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS.) Many of the required courses help student prepare for several of the standard actuarial exams administered by these societies. The program also helps students to complete parts of several of the more advanced exams. In addition, Bradley requires that students sit for an exam in order to graduate.

Outside of the classroom, Bradley Actuarial Science majors have a wealth of cocurricular and cooperative learning experiences to choose from, including:

  • Phi Chi Theta (The national professional fraternity for business majors and minors)
  • Gamma Iota Sigma (The national association for risk management students)
  • Women in Business

Students in the program enjoy scholarships and other financial support from a variety of sources, including corporate donors, professional associations, and individual contributors. The program’s established ties lead to internship opportunities for students at companies including:

Beyond Bradley
Jobs Rated Almanac consistently ranks Actuarial Science as one of the top three jobs in the United States. Starting salaries depend partially on the number of exams completed. However, they usually range between $41,000 and $54,000 for those with one passed exam. Experienced professionals in either society have the potential to earn between $150,000 and $250,000. Placement rates for Bradley’s Actuarial Science graduates are outstanding. Among employers of Bradley graduates in Actuarial Science are:
