Bradley’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences offers an undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in Family and Consumer Sciences. Bradley’s program in Consumer Sciences offers a flexible curriculum for students who have special interests in areas such as:
- interior design
- family and child development
Students also have the option of taking an international concentration with their major. The international concentration requires 18 hours.
The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences is pleased to announce thatselects two freshmen will be choseneach year to become either the “Mildred Arnold Scholar” or the “C.C. Wheeler Scholar” with an accompanying annual scholarship of $4,000. These scholarships are renewed annually for up to four years providing the student maintains a minimum GPA of 3.00 and completes the scholarship requirements. Only students who have applied to Bradley University’s Department of Family and Consumer Sciences by February 1, 2007 each year and have completed the scholarship application will receive full consideration for these prestigious awards.
As continuing FCS majors, upperclassmen are eligible to apply for several scholarships ranging from several hundred to $3,000 per year. These scholarships have been established through the generous donations of our gracious alumnae.
Students in Bradley’s Family and Consumer Sciences program work directly with faculty who create a close-knit community by being dedicated teachers, mentors, and advisors. They have published in national journals including the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, and the Journal of Nutrition for the Elderly. Faculty have presented research (often done with the help of students) at the International Academy of Nutrition and Aging in New Mexico and at the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Annual Meeting.
Students enjoy close interaction with faculty and the opportunity to gain experience through relevant research projects and even participate in annual student research and creative achievement exhibition.
Outside of the classroom, Bradley Family and Consumer Sciences Education majors enjoy many co-curricular and cooperative learning experiences including off-site study in Europe, Chicago, and New York. Students can participate in the Bradley University Fashion Focus organization, Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society, Bradley Student Dietetic Association, and the new Bradley Hospitality Association.
In recent years, Family and Consumer Sciences graduates have enjoyed a placement rate as high as 100 percent% placement rate. Bradley alumni have held or currently hold significant positions nationally such as Consumer Education teachers, Health Promotion Flight Commander at the Health and Wellness Center at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, and an Exercise Consultant at Millennium Health and Fitness Club. They have worked as nutrition and fitness editors, in marketing principles at Kraft Foods, and as an interior stylist at Visual Merchandising at Nordstrom’s Oak Brook store. Graduates have continued their education at:
