Bradley’s Department of Civil Engineering offers a baccalaureate program in civil engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (www.abet.org.). This program provides students the necessary background for continued professional growth and prepares them for engineering careers. U.S.News & World Report consistently ranks Bradley’s Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology among the nation’s finest. Design practices in civil engineering are integrated throughout the curriculum, culminating in a professional level capstone design course under the supervision of faculty and industrial partners. The program offers a broad spectrum of specialties with opportunities to emphasize areas of internationalization, sustainability, and infrastructure. Specialties include:
- water resources and environmental engineering
- highway and pavement design
- geotechnical engineering
- construction management
Opportunities at Bradley
The department has outstanding relationships with their industrial partners. The unique and highly regarded Center for Emerging Technologies in Infrastructure (CETI) sponsors conferences in transportation, asphalt, and innovations in construction. Students have the opportunity to network with professional practitioners and academicians from all over the world during the CETI center conferences which they can attend free-of-charge or at a reduced rate.
Civil Engineering majors can participate in the Global Explorer Program. This program is designed to expand the student experience through international travel and scholarship. Programs may be offered in countries such as Denmark, England, Dubai, or India, where courses that are offered within the field include:
- Fluid Mechanics
- Water Supply and Hydraulic Engineering
- Asphalt Technology
- Mechanics of Materials
Outside of the classroom, Bradley Civil Engineering majors have a wealth of cocurricular and cooperative learning opportunities to develop their leadership and citizenship skills. These are available through activities and membership in the following student organizations:
- American Society of Civil Engineers
- Chi Epsilon (the Civil Engineering Honor Society)
- Construction Club
- Sigma Lambda Chi (the Construction Honor Society)
Students can participate in service activities such as building playgrounds, homes for the needy, race tracks, and the unique “Bridge Pal” Program, which is designed to foster an interest in engineering among middle school and high school students.
Bradley's Civil Engineering graduates enjoy a consistently strong job outlook with placement rates well above 90% within the first couple of months after graduation. Recent employers include:
