Miles Himmel

Sports Communications

Vespucci. Polo. Da Gama. great explorers, right?

Well, I think it’s time to add Miles Himmel to the list.  In addition to exploring the world as those travelers did, I have something extra on my resume - a Bradley education.  Take that, Columbus.

My global educational experiences that reflect my childhood passion for soccer and my education at Bradley leaves me with no doubt that this was the right decision.

This year, I toured with my Soccer Communication & Globalization professor and mentor.  With his connections in Milan, our group had VIP access to F.C. Inter Milan’s soccer club, or F.C. Internazionale Milano, as they are known in Italy. The team is the reigning champion in Italy, World Club Cup champion and European champion.  We toured Inter Milan’s facilities and made it into the locker rooms, and had a “meet-and-greet” opportunity with the team.

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked, “Why did you come to Peoria, IL, when you live in San Diego?” I’d be able to pay for another ticket to Europe.  As much as I dislike wearing coats in February, I knew Bradley had everything I was searching for in a university.  Sports Communication program? Check.  Smaller campus in an urban setting?  Check.  Study abroad opportunities?  Check.  NFL games starting later on Sundays?  Check.

As I continue my studies here on campus, working Bradley sporting events, helping Mid-State Magazine and playing my own intramural sports games, I’m already looking forward to my next destination, London.  NBC has been on campus to interview Bradley students who will hopefully become interns for the 2012 Olympics in London.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to “jump the pond” again
to stamp my passport and check England off my list.

Update: Miles was selected as one of ten Bradley students to become interns for the 2012 Olympics in London.
